Demon Crown

The Demon Crown is a major object in Cave Story. It appears to be a tall, metallic crown, with a solitary red eye on the front.

Role

The Demon Crown plays a role of major importance in Cave Story. Whoever wears the crown gains extraordinary abilities, such as the manipulation of Misery and Balrog. The one who controls the Demon Crown during the events of the game is the Doctor.

History

The Carved Demon Crown Statues

The Demon Crown was created by Ballos upon Misery's demand. In retaliation, he then cursed Misery and Balrog to have to serve whoever wears the crown. Even if destroyed, the crown will rise again, as Ballos' twisted soul permeates the artifact.

Past known wearers of the Demon Crown were:

• Halder
• Anatupone
• Miakido
• Fuyuhiko Date (the Doctor)

Each wearer has a small statue of themselves in the Statue Chamber, a small room near the Plantation. The statues were carved by a Droll known as Numahachi.

Trivia

• The eye carved in the crown, which represents the power of possession and control, is present on Ballos' robe, in one of his eyes. This eye can also be seen on one of the many blocks in the King's Table and pillars in the Seal Chamber.
• In Cave Story+, on the Doctor's portrait, an added dragon design is visible on the left side of the crown.
